Effects

Effects

Shadows, blur, color grading, chroma key, tracking-driven mattes, and audio processing all live on the same per-layer effect stack — and every field on every one of them is keyframeable.

One stack, every layer

Text, image, video, shape, path, nested comps, captions — any visual layer carries the same effect stack. Add an effect from the inspector, drag to reorder the card list, and each one processes the output of the card below it. See Layer effects for how the stack itself works.

Where effects live

Thirty-six layer effects sit on one stack, catalogued in full under Layer effects. Two of them are deep enough to have their own page; the rest of this table is the effect surfaces that are not cards on that stack.

EffectCategoryWhat it does
The layer-effect catalog36 cardsShadow, glow, blur and motion blur, colour and grading, gradient map, fills, light rays, flares, lightning, shine, bulge, wave, twirl, lens distortion, roughen edges, glitch, halftone, pixelate, bevel, liquid glass, film grain, damage, scanlines and noise — each with presets, each field keyframeable.
Color gradingLayer effectA DaVinci-style grading node — lift/gamma/gain wheels, temperature, exposure, saturation. Stack as many as you like.
The Color pageWorkspaceGrade node graphs, colour qualifiers, trackable power windows, and waveform, parade and vectorscope readouts.
Chroma keyLayer effectRemoves a key color from image, video or GIF sources before compositing.
Motion trackingData sourceTracks a box, ellipse, polygon or hand-drawn contour, then drives any layer, colour key or effect region.
Frame effectsWhole frameThe frame's own effect stack — grain, a grade or a vignette over the finished picture, from the inspector with nothing selected.
Adjustment layersCompositingRe-runs the effect stack over everything below it, or the whole frame — scoped to chosen layers.
Text effectsPer-glyphShadow, glow, stroke, inner shadow and long shadow applied per character — they ride each glyph as it animates, not the text box.
Audio effectsAudioGain, fades, a parametric EQ, and time-stretch & pitch.

Everything here is keyframeable

Every field on every effect above is an animatable property, not a static setting — blur radius, key tolerance, grain rate, glass refraction, a grading wheel’s lift. Key them directly, or bind one to a variable, a tracker, or a node graph expression and drive it from something else in the document.

Feather, crop and border radius clip and soften a layer at the same seam these effects render through — see Compositing & clipping.
